In the Summer's heat

 Signal 8-14 July 1941

 From our reporters on the front: the advance of german troops is now irresistible! The German panzers entered Odessa after a dash that led them from the former German-Russian border to the Black Sea. In the north, Vilnius falls as Minsk is surroundeds.

 Well, in fact, progress is hard everywhere. The Russians are numerous and blocking the way. Supply is running out at the front line. I played the OKH Reconsiders card which allows to get a panzer corps immediately rather than in August 41. In the air,Soviet planes are shyly re-appearing, unsuccessfully. My initial bad turn is still paid with the Riga line that still stands.Fortunately, the Soviet center is thin.

 Pravda July 8-14, 1941

Our valiant soldiers fight tooth and nail. Wherever the fascist comes, he finds a comrade to stand before him. The armored corp that took Odessa by treachery is now trapped in his conquest. A Romanian mountain corp is pushed back after numerous melee fights. 

Taking advantage of my lack ofsupplies, Angel holds on to Chisinau and facing Kiev. Same in the north. He even emboldened himself to a few counter-attacks without any significant success. 

 


15-22 July 41

 Two of the German HQs have moved and will not be able to give supplies until three weeks. And that’s without my opponent’s guile who plays the "Scorched Earth" card that slows the recovery of all the counters in a turn. The Soviet plays dirty .The supply system is really effective. Without going into complicated details, it allows to simulate the difficulties of supporting a deep offensive like Barbarossa. Well done, Mr.Chadwick!


The German encircles Minsk, this time it is done. It is difficult to launch new attacks without refueling, so Luftwaffe is being asked for support. It first suppress Russian aerodromes to maintain its superiority. Two Soviet fighters surprised the world by shooting two German bombers. Apart from that, the sky remains clear.

In the south, it is impossible to rescue the armored corps in Odessa. There are six Russian armies around.

In turn, Angel creates a line in the center, wanting to protect Smolensk. In Mogilev, the only surviving Russian headquarters is dangerously close to the moment when it can become operational.


An attack is attempted on the HQ of the Southern Group, protected by Romanian motorized vehicles. The alert is warm, von Rundstedt and his staff are shooting at the Russian infantrymen. Fortunately for the Germans, the attack is a failure, we will have to protect this point by putting panzer on it ...A lull is coming, and all German Hqs are being reorganized.


  August will be necessary for the kick that will bring the whole building down!

El juego de Ted Raicer dedicado a la campaña de Normandía era cuanto menos esperado. Famoso autor de GMT, en particular con su reciente serie de "Dark" (Dark Valley sobre la guerra en la Unión Soviética 1941-1945 y luego Dark Sands sobre la guerra en el Norte de África), su contribución lúdica a la simulación del teatro de Normandía debía ser original. En nuestra opinión, el reto se cumple. La elección de Raicer es, en primer lugar, simular toda la campaña de Normandía, desde el desembarco propiamente dicho hasta el avance a finales de agosto y la bolsa de Falaise. Es una elección original que la distingue de los juegos estratégicos sobre la campaña, como el excelente Liberty Roads de los franceses Yves Le Quellec y Nicolas Rident (Hexasim) o Normandy'44 de Mark Simonitch...

Ted Raicer's game dedicated to the Normandy campaign was expected to say the least. Famous author of GMT, in particular with his recent series of "Dark" (Dark Valley on the war in the Soviet Union 1941-1945 then Dark Sands on the war in North Africa), his ludic contribution to the simulation of the Normandy theater had to be original. In our opinion, the job is done. Raicer's choice is first to simulate the whole Normandy campaign, from the landing itself to the breakthrough at the end of August and the Falaise pocket.   The Dark Summer : du nouveau sur le théâtre de Normandie par Romain Ducoulombier   Merci à Romain de proposer cette analyse poussée et argumentée du dernier jeu de Ted Raicer sur la campagne de Normandie.    Le jeu de Ted Raicer consacré à la campagne de Normandie était pour le moins attendu. Auteur réputé de GMT, en particulier avec sa série récente des « Dark » ( Dark Valley sur la guerre en Union Soviétique 1941-1945 puis Dark Sands sur la guerre en Afrique du Nord), sa contribution ludique à la simulation du théâtre de Normandie se devait d'être originale. A nos yeux, le pari est tenu. Le choix de Raicer est d'abord de simuler l'ensemble de la campagne de Normandie, du débarquement lui-même à la percée de la fin août et la poche de Falaise.
